Gruver – Funeral services for Gertrude [Bernice] Woods, 82, of Gruver will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 17 at the Gruver Presbyterian Church in Gruver with the Rev. Neal Armstrong officiating. Interment will be held at Lincoln Township Cemetery, Dolliver. She died Wednesday, July 17 at Rosewood Manor Care Center in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born on March 27, 1914 in Sandwich, Ill., the daughter of Alert and Gurina (Auerbeck) Rasmussen. She moved with her family to Emmet County as a young girl and attended local country schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1931. She then took normal school training at Estherville Junior College and the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. After her training, she taught at the rural schools – North Superior school and at Terril. During World War II, she was a USO hostess in Fort Wayne, Ind. and Albuquerque, N.M. She was united to George Harvey on November 12, 1950 in Spencer. The couple farmed in the Gruver area. George died on May 9, 1972.

She was united in marriage to Robert Woods in 1977 and they continued to live in the Gruver area until her death.

She was a member of the Gruver Presbyterian Church and the Lakeshore Country club. She also was a substitute school teacher for many years in area schools.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Gruver; one son, George Leroy Harvey of Cumberland, Md.; one daughter, Ann Harvey Conover of Baxter; one step daughter, Mildred Harvey Jorgensen of Estherville; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Ostermier of Weywega, Wis.; Evelyn Price of Newport, Ore.; two brothers, Arnold Rasmussen of North Sioux City, S.D. and Mervin (Bud) Rasmussen of Dolliver.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and her parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 18, 1996)
