Dolliver – Funeral services for Wilburn “Weg” Swanson, 83, of Dolliver will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at United Methodist Church in Dolliver with Pastor Lyndon Roesler officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Lincoln township Cemetery in Dolliver with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville.

He died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at his home in Dolliver.

Wilburn "Weg" Albert Swanson, son of Albert and Ellen (Carlson) Swanson, was born June 27, 1923, in Estherville, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007, at his home in Dolliver, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 5 days. [Omitted from newspaper obit, included in MC]

Weg received his education and graduated from Estherville High School. After completing his education, Weg worked at the arsenal in Rock Island, Ill., and then in 1943, enlisted and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in the European Theatre. Following his honorable discharge from military duty in 1945, he returned to the area.

On June 22, 1947, Weg was united in marriage to Lorna Richards. Following their wedding, the couple made their home in Estherville for a short time before moving to their farm in Dolliver. They raised their family and farmed in the Dolliver area their entire married life. In his leisure time Wilburn enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. The couple also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida.

Web was a member of the Dolliver United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3388 in Estherville. He was also a member of the Emmet County Conservation Board for twenty years. Weg was also a longtime member of the Elk’s Lodge in Estherville.

Left to cherish Weg’s memory are his wife, Lorna, of Dolliver; his three children, Karen Lown of LaCrosse, Wis., Diane D. Larsen and her husband, John, of Fairmont, Minn., and Kim A. Swanson and his wife, LuAnn, of Dolliver; seven grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Lola Swanson and Lou Carmony.

Preceding Wilburn in death were his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert; and son-in-law, Bob Lown. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 5, 2007)
