Andrew J. Oswalt of Dolliver Dies
Andrew J. Oswalt, 87, well known and pioneer resident of the Dolliver vicinity, died Saturday [December 8, 1956] about 8 p.m. at his home after suffering a heart attack. Mr. and Mrs. Oswalt had observed their 64th wedding anniversary a week before his death.

Mr. Oswalt was born in Jasper County on Nov. 10, 1869 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed [and Martha Tripp] Oswalt . He attended the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Oswalt. He attended the Jasper county schools and lived there until a young man.

He was married on Nov. 30, 1892 to Kitty Swalwell at the home of an old family friend in Nevada. Mr. and Mrs. Oswalt lived at Collins after their marriage until March 7, 1891 when they came to Emmet County.

They established their home first on a farm now owned by Dr. C.E. Birney and farmed by Don Kirchner in Ellsworth Township. In 1918 they purchased and moved to the 240 acre farm where they have lived since. Mr. Oswald retired several years ago from active farming but he and Mrs. Oswalt and a son, Morris, continued to make their home there, renting the farm land to George Holl.

In addition to his widow and son, Morris, Mr. Oswalt is survived by two sons, Lawrence of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Andrew Jr. of Sioux City; five daughters Millie Oswalt of San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. H.E. (Kittie) Vore of Ames; Mrs. Art (Mary) Halvorson of Rake, Mrs. F.A. (Violet) McGuan of Dolliver, and Mrs. A. – (Velda) Steuland of Fairmont, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Ida Southern of Los Angeles, Calif.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. George (Tillie) Hayes who died in 1940, his parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mr. Oswalt will be on Wednesday. The body will be taken from Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home at 9 a.m. Wednesday to the home where a family service will be held at 12 noon. A t1 p.m. services will be held in the Methodist church at Dolliver, the Rev. Don Glazier officiating. Interment will be in the Dolliver cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George Holl, Sam Bonhus, James Stillman, Raymond Olson, Silas Knutson and Albert Hardecopf.

Honorary pallbearers will be L.P. Stillman, O.P.Stow, John Berg, Melvin Peterson, G.A. McGuan, Ed Iverson and Hiram Griese.

Friends may call at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home from this evening until 9 a.m. Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 10, 1956)
