Mrs. Mary Mitchell of Dolliver Dies
Mrs. Mary Mitchell, longtime Dolliver resident, died at 3:15 a.m. today at Holy Family hospital of a heart attack. She was 94. Her health had been failing throughout the summer.Born April 1, 1859, in Franklin county, she was reared and educated there. She married John B. Mitchell in January 1883. Her maiden name was Mary Isabelle Clark.
The couple farmed in Sheffield for 11 years and then moved to a farm southwest of Dolliver. When her husband died 26 years ago she made her home with her son, Lee, in Dolliver until 1940 when he died also. Since then she had been living with her daughters, Mrs. Lottie Peterson in Dolliver.
A member of the Dolliver Methodist church, she was active in Ladies Aid and Sunday school work.
Surviving her death are two daughters, Mrs. Samuel Brees of Whittier, Calif., and Mrs. E.H. Erickson of Chevy Chase, Md.; and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Darris [?] of Portland, Ore. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two sons, Lee and a child who died in infancy.
Funeral services have not been set as yet, pending word from relatives from out of town. Burial will be in the Dolliver cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 10, 1953)
Mitchell Rites Sunday
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Sunday for Mrs. J. Mitchell, long-time Dolliver resident who died yesterday at Holy Family hospital. Services will be held at the Dolliver Methodist church, the Rev. A. Wentlandt officiating. Burial will be in the Dolliver cemetery. Born Mary Isabel Clark [line missing] Wis., she was the daughter of Robert L. Clark and Eliza Swecker Clark. She married John Mitchell on Jan. 11, 1883, and four children were born to this union. Mrs. W.L. Petreson of Dolliver, the late Lee Mitchell of Dolliver, Mrs. E.H. Erickson of Chevy Chase, Md., and Mrs. S. Brees of Whittier, Calif. Others surviving are a sister, Mrs. [line missing] and eight great grandchildren. The Mitchell couple lived for three years in Wisconsin, 11 years in Franklin county, Iowa, and 57 years in Emmet county. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 11, 1953)
