William Maron Was Native of Germany
William Carl Maron was born Oct. 15, 1874 at Drizo, Germany. He came to the United States at the age of 14 years making his home with relatives in the vicinity of Whittemore. In 1894 he was married to Anna Markgraf at Lotts Creek. They spent the first years of their married life farming near Armstrong, S.D., and near Dolliver. In 1927 they moved into Dolliver where they operated a restaurant for several years. Mr. Maron was custodian of the Dolliver Consolidated School for 15 years. Mrs. Maron passed away in 1943.After his retirement in 1947, Mr. Maron made his home in Dolliver with his daughter, Mrs. Albert Hardecopf. He had been in failing health this past year and lived the last two months at the Balmer Nursing Home in Estherville where he passed away Saturday April 6.
Survivors include: one son, A.E. Maron of Grinnell, eight daughters, Mrs. Paul McDermott of Davenport, Mrs. Albert Hardecopf of Dolliver, Mrs. Charles Williams of Compton, Calif., Mrs. Robert Evans of Ponca City, Okla., Mrs. William Trumbo of Northbridge, Calif.
Mrs. Glen Vogt of Grinnell, Mrs. Al Christensen of Des Moines, and Mrs. Carlos Johnson of Flint, Mich. Also 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 brothers, Herman Maron, Mitchell, S.D. and Reynold of McGregor, Minn. survive.
Services were held at the Methodist Church at Dolliver Monday afternoon April 8 at 2 o’clock. Pallbearers were Lee Miller, Tom Richards, Al O’Sell, Harold Laffey, Silas Knutson and Percy Herum. Burial was in the Dolliver Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 12, 1957)
