Obituary
Rachel F. Fields was born in Pennsylvania, April 16, 1856. She married Robert Ball at Marengo, Iowa, Oct. 25, 1877. They lived in Story and Kossuth counties several years and moved to Emmet county in 1897. Ten children were born to them, six daughters and four sons, all of whom are living and have their home with their parents.

Mrs. Ball was a rare wife and mother, she did not mingle with society, but gave herself entirely to the sacred duties of motherhood. Her devotion inspired a tender and beautiful affection in the home. Husband, daughters and sons did all possible for their mother, during life and in her last illness. The neighbors also ministered helpfully. When 18 years of age Mrs. Ball united with the Presbyterian church in Iowa county, Iowa. She continued in the faith for 29 years. Her death occurred at her home for miles west of Dolliver, September 26, 1903. The funeral was held at the M.E. church September 27, conducted by Rev. R.A. Harwood and was very largely attended. The interment was made in the new cemetery near Dolliver. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 30, 1903 / Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 30, 1903)
