Mrs. Halvor Olson [Olsen] Dead
Passed Away Last Week at Her Home Northeast of Estherville
Mrs. Halvor Olson died at her home 3 ¼ miles northeast of Estherville last week Wednesday of cancer of the stomach. She took sick last September. The funeral was held at the home Monday, Rev. Akre having charge. Burial was made in the Norwegian cemetery.

Mrs. Halvor [Agnetha] Olson was born in Lands Prastegjeld, Norway, September 26, 1843. She married Halvor Olson in Allamakee county, Iowa, December 15, 1871. Soon afterwards the family moved to Emmet county where they have since resided.

Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Olson, Mrs. Carl Olson, Otto, Alfred, Bertha, Sophia and Anna. Haus Nelson of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and Ben Nelson of this county are brothers, and Mrs. Severt Lee is a sister of Mrs. Olson. All were present at the funeral.

Mrs. Olson was a life long member of the Norwegian Lutheran church. She was a most excellent woman. The Enterprise extends sympathy. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 31, 1909)

Mrs. Halvor Olson Dead
Mrs. Halvor Olson died at her home two miles north of this city on Wednesday, March 24th, of cancer of the stomach. She had been sick since last September and her death was not wholly unexpected. She had lived in Emmet county for many years. Deceased was born in Norway and came to this country in 1866 and was married to Halvor Olson December 15th, 1877, and died at the age of 67 years.

A husband and five children, Otto, Alfred, Bertha, Sophia and Mrs. Carl Olson of this city, are left to mourn her taking away. Funeral services were held Monday at the farm home and the remains interred in the Norwegian cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 31, 1909)

Mrs. Halvor Olson of Emmet Township Dies of Cancer the 24th of This Month
Resided Here Forty Years
Funeral Held From Residence Monday Afternoon, Rev. Akre Officiating
After an illness of several months Mrs. Halvor Olson of Emmet township died last Wednesday, March 24, of cancer of the stomach, aged 67 years and six months. Funeral was held from the residence Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Akre of the Norwegian church, the sermon being in both English and Norwegian. There were many beautiful floral tributes and a large concourse of people were in attendance to pay their respects to the departed. Anette Nelson was born in Lands Prestegjeld, Norway, September 26, 1842. In 1865 she came with her parents to America, settling in Allamakee county, Iowa. Two years later, December 15th, 1869 she was united in marriage to Halvor Olson [Olsen]. To this union four daughters and two sons were born: Misses Bertha, Sophia, Anna and Mrs. C.S. Olson and Otto and Alfred Olson, all living at home, except Mrs. C.S. Olson, who resides in Estherville. In 1859 they moved to this county, settling on a homestead in Emmet township, about five miles north of Estherville.

Deceased was a very devoted mother, affectionate wife and kind neighbor. She endured the hardships incident to pioneer life with patience and fortitude and was always ready to assist and cheer her husband. Besides the children above mentioned, deceased is survived by her husband, a sister, Mrs. Sevart Lee, and two brothers, Ben Nelson and Hans Nelson.
