Mrs. A.G.[Marie G. Lear] Valen was born in Norway, August 29, 1866, her parents were Abraham and Ingebor Lear. She came to America in 1881 and lived in and near Story City, Iowa nine years.

February 28, 1890 she was joined in marriage to Arnt G. Valen. The young couple came to Emmet county Iowa, March 1, 1890 where they have lived till Mrs. Valen passed away April 2, 1917, aged 50 years, 7 months and four days.

To Mr. and Mrs. Valen were born ten children, five boys and five girls all living. Besides her husband and ten children she also leaves one grandchild and two brothers.

Mrs. Valen was a quiet unassuming godfearing woman. Her great desire was to live at pace with god and in every possible way help her children to the same blessing.

She was a gods blessing to her children, to her church and her community.

She was buried April 5th from the Lutheran church. She sleeps in peace to arise in glory. – Contributed (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 11, 1917)
