7 Injured in Collision; Two Badly Hurt
C.E. Eastman, 82, in Serious Condition
Seven persons were injured, two seriously, in a head-on automobile collision early Sunday morning on highway No. 4, four miles north of Sherburn.

C.E. Eastman, 82, and Burt Fisher, both of Estherville suffered broken ribs and possible internal injuries. Aubrey Eastman, who was driving the car, suffered scalp lacerations and Janet Fisher, 4, and Melvin Fisher, 6, were riding in the car. One of the children was reported to have a badly cut leg.

The other car involved was driven by Joseph Hubachek of Jackson who had two passengers, Walter Smith of Spirit Lake and Marvin Olson of Jackson. They were all cut and bruised.

The injured persons were taken to the Lindahl hospital in Sherburn for treatment and C.E. Eastman and Burt Fisher were removed to Holy Family hospital by ambulance Sunday. Aubrey Eastman and the men from Hubachek’s car were treated and then released. Fisher has been released from Holy Family hospital but Eastman’s condition is critical.

Hubachek told Sheriff William Roehler of Martin county that the Eastman’s car lights failed to dim promptly and went out completely for a moment. When they went on again the cars were facing each other and it was too late to avoid a collision.

The Eastman care careened into a ditch and was demolished and the front of the Hubachek car was damaged.
