Nels Sunde Final Rites On Thursday
Funeral services for Nels Sunde, 82, well-known resident of Emmet County since 1885 who died yesterday, are to be Thursday, a family service at 10:45 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Home, Rev. Christian Notsund officiating, and 2 p.m. public rites at Estherville Lutheran Church, Rev. Roy M. Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery north of Estherville.

Mr. Sunde died yesterday about 1 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital, his death attributed to complications following a stroke that he had suffered three weeks previously. He had been in the hospital since that time.

Nels Sunde was born Jan. 21, 1883, in Norway, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tollef Sunde. He came with his parents to the United States and Emmet County when only two years of age. He received his education in the Emmet County schools.

He was married to Ingebord [Ingeborg] Tendal in 1912 at Roland and after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Sunde moved to a farm near Dolliver. They lived there until 1930, at which time they moved to Estherville whre he worked as a carpenter until time of his retirement.

Mr. Sunde is survived by his widow, three sons, Raymond of Estherville, Lloyd of Fenton, Merle of San Jose, Calif.; three daughters, Lillian Sunde and Mrs. Howard (Alice) Mitchell, both of Estherville, and Mrs. Jack (Nina) Sill of Fairmont; 21 grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Caroline Olson of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a brother, Rev. L.O. Sunde of Fairfield. Calif.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today until noon Thursday, when the body will be taken to lie in state at the church until time of service.

Pallbearers are to be Maurice Sunde, Orris Sunde, Archie Sunde, Elmer Shaw, Lawrence Sunde and Alvin Sunde. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 2, 1965)
