Former Estherville Youth Killed in Car-bus Crash
Charles Everett Raney, 15, son of Commander and Mrs. Charles Raney of Binghamton, N.Y., was killed in a bus-auto accident Wednesday evening, Jan. 3, 1973, near Binghamton.

He was with a swimming team returning from a meet.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Oscar Engebretson officiating. Interment will be made in Lutheran Cemetery in Estherville.

He was born April 6, 1957, in Estherville to Charles and Dorothy Valen Raney. He had lived in Binghamton the past two years and was a sophomore in high school there.

Surviving are his parents; two brothers, David and Gary; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Arthur Valen, Estherville; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Raney of Livermore. His father is serving in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Binghamton.

Music for the services here will be provided by Carolyn Gjerde, vocalist, and Mrs. Arthur Voetmann, Organist. Pallbearers will be Floyd Raney, Lyle Doege, Donald Valen, Harland Bergeson, Glen Roberts and Michael Isder.

The body is to be returned to Estherville Saturday and will lie in state Saturday evening and Sunday at Reese-Henry Funeral Home in Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 5, 1973)
