Estherville – Services for Alma G. Beastrom, 80, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastors Michael Kroona and Kermit Rye officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the V.F.W. and American Legion. She died Sunday, Aug. 27, 1989 at Good Samaritan Center, Estherville.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday.

She was born Dec. 3, 1908 in Ellsworth Township, Emmet Co., Iowa, the daughter of Arnt and Maria (Lear) Valen. She graduated from Emmet Consolidated High School in 1929 and attended Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines. She was a nurse in hospitals in Estherville, Fort Dodge, Ames and Minneapolis from 1932-45 when she entered the Army Nurse Corps and served in World War II. She attended Lutheran Bible Institute in the early 1940’s in Minneapolis. Following marriage to Noman Beastrom on Oct. 15, 1946, she lived in Ellsworth, Wis. til 1965 then returned to Estherville. She was director of nursing at Good Samaritan Center from 1957-74 when she retired.

She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church; Charter member of Ibsen Sons of Norway Lodge.

Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Beastrom, Edina, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died in September, 1971; parents; five brothers and four sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 29, 1989)
