Mrs. Walter Wratten Dies At Age of 85
Mrs. Walter Wratten, 85, longtime resident of Estherville, died at 7 p.m. yesterday of a heart attack, suffered at her home here. Mrs. Wratten had been in good health until New Year’s Day at which time she complained of not feeling good. Since that time though she had not been considered seriously ill, according to members of the family.

Adeline Harriett Evans, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Evans, was born Oct. 5, 1872 at Postville. She lived in Postville until she was 16 years of age, at which time she moved to Estherville with her parents.

Miss Evans was united in marriage to the late Walter Wratten in 1893. Prior to Mr. Wratten’s death in 1943 he had been boilermaker foreman for the Rock Island Railroad.

Mrs. Wratten was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Royal Neighbors of America.

She is survived by two sons, Walter Wratten of Cedar Rapids and Harry Wratten of Moline, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Margie) Paul and Mrs. Otto (Irene) Klein, both of Estherville and Mrs. John (Harriett) Benson of Spencer; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were a son, Charlie who died in infancy; a daughter, Lillian in 1934, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church, the Rev. Father James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Announcement will be made later on the time of Rosary which is pending word from Mrs. Paul who is presently on a trip to California. Friends may call at Sternborg Funeral Home from Saturday noon until time of services Monday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 9, 1957)

Rosary for Mrs. Walter Wratten, 85, who died Tuesday morning of a heart attack will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday at Sternborg Funeral Home. Last rites have been changed from 9:30 a.m. Monday to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Church, the Rev. Father James H. Duhigg officiating. Her survivors include two sons, Walter Wratten of Cedar Rapids and Harry Wratten of Moline, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Joe (Margie0 Paul and Mrs. Otto (Irene) Klein, both of Estherville; Mrs. John (Harriett) Benton of Spencer and Mrs. Roy (Mae) Stoddard of North Platte, Neb.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Mrs. Stoddard’s name was inadvertently omitted from the list of survivors printed in yesterday’s Daily News. Friends may call at Sternborg’s from 7 o’clock tonight until time of services Saturday.
