Death at 87 After Illness
Mrs. Paul Wellnitz, 87, died shortly after midnight today at her residence at 1216 Central Ave.She had been in failing health since July, 1955.
Margaret DeWall was born Jan. 5, 1879, in Wilhelms Fahen, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry DeWall. She received her education in Germany and the United States, coming to this country with her father in 1888. They lived in the Pocahontas, Terril, and Wallingford areas.
Feb. 16, 1909, she was married to Paul Wellnitz at Terril. In 1918 they moved to a farm near Estherville and farmed in the area until retiring in 1945 and moving to Estherville.
She was a member of Estherville Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons, Martin of Madelia, Minn., Paul of Webb, and Bill of Estherville; four daughters, Mrs. George (Johanna) Petershagen of Watertown, S.D., Mrs. Lawrence (Dorothy) Chewning of Summerton, S.C., Mrs. Arthur (Emma) Fitzpatrick of Chicago, and Mrs. Jack (Lillian) Myers of Estherville; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, one son who was killed during World War II, her parents, three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
Family services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Reese Funeral Home. Public rites will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Church at 2 p.m., Rev. W.H. Discher officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Friday to lie in state until time of the final rites. The casket will not be opened following services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 20, 1966)
