J.H. Spurling Funeral Will Be Tomorrow
Funeral services will be held at 2:15 p.m. tomorrow at the Baptist church here for James H. Spurling, 70, who died suddenly Wednesday [October 25, 1939] night at the home of his son, Harold, two miles southeast of Dolliver.

The Rev. J. Albert Riggs will conduct the services and burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Spurling died of a heart attack while feeding stock on his son’s farm. He was found lying on the ground by Mrs. Spurling who a few minutes previously had called him to supper.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Harold and Carl, both of Dolliver and a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Rankin, also of Dolliver. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 27, 1939)
