Mrs. Byron Sharar Dies
Mrs. Byron (Susanna) Sharar, 85, longtime resident and former Emmet county teacher, died at 12:25 p.m. yesterday at Holy Family Hospital. She had been in ill health for a number of years.Mrs. Sharar was born Susanna Caroline Berne on May 30, 1876 at Wilton Junction, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bernet.
She received her education in the Wilton Junction schools, graduating from high school there and attended college for one year, taking teacher-training course.
She was married to Byron M. Sharar on Jan. 19, 1898 at Wilton Junction. Mrs. Sharar came to Emmet County in 1895 and taught in Emmet County schools from 1895 to 1898. Following her marriage, the Sharars farmed in Martin County, Minn. and Emmet County.
Mrs. Sharar was a charter member of the Huntington Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Paul B. Sharar of Clinton; one daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Gladys) Topp of Estherville, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister, Lydia Phipps of San Bernardino, Calif.; and three brothers, Harry Bernet of Wilton Junction, Albert Bernet of West Liberty and George Bernet, address unknown. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a sister, Mary Bernet.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Huntington Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Ortmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from Friday morning until 9 a.m. Saturday when the casket will be taken to the church. The casket will not be opened after the service.
