Estherville – Services for Mrs. Thomas (Laura) Ruckman, 87, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church, Estherville, with the Rev. Clifford Haider officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. She died Monday morning, May 9, 1983, at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home.Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home after 3 p.m. today (Wednesday).
Laura O. Anderson, was born Aug. 17, 1895 at Grundy Center, the daughter of Adam and Christina Anderson. At the age of six months her family moved to Estherville and Laura attended the Ellsworth Township School. On Aug. 3, 1921 she was united in marriage with Thomas Ruckman at Spirit Lake. The couple lived in Estherville and she worked many years at the Holy Family Hospital. Mr. Ruckman died July 9, 1968.
Mrs. Ruckman was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Alpha Circle of the Ladies Aid.
Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Vivian Ketman, Ft. Dodge, Mrs. Austin (Mary) Meyer, Spirit Lake, Mrs. Marvin (Laura) Cox, Estherville; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Gladys George, Estherville, Mrs. Obert (Florence) Drangstad, Billings, Mont., Mrs. Laurine Houts, Indigo, Calif.; one stepson, Wade Ruckman, Casper, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Olga Howard, Independence, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband; stepson; stepgrandson; parents; three sisters and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 11, 1983)
