Pioneer Hotel Man Is Called
Hans Petersen Dies Suddenly Tuesday of Stroke
Hans Peter Petersen, pioneer hotel keeper of Estherville, died at his home here Friday [October 17, 1930] afternoon of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered four hours previously. Mr. Peterson was almost 80 years old, having been born Nov. 20, 1850 in Denmark. His health had been poor for several years but he was bout his home and down town in the usual way until the day of his passing.For 26 years Mr. Peterson in partnership with his brother Jens Peterson, conducted the Emmet house, one of the good hotels in pioneer Estherville. They retired from business when this hostelry was burned 17 years ago, and has devoted himself to his property interests about town since then.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his devoted wife and one daughter, Mrs. Chas. Reid, of Des Moines, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from Grace Episcopal church in charge of Rev. Doane Up-john. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 22, 1930)
