Well-Known Local Man Dies at Home
Sam Danielsen, 48, prominent member of the Christian church here for many years died at 11:05 a.m. yesterday at his home, 16 North 13th street. He had become ill last December and entered a Sioux city hospital for treatment of a cancerous brain tumor.

Mr. Danielson was born Oct. 12, 1904, in Coulter, and moved with his parents to Estherville at the age of six. He attended the Estherville public schools.

On Oct. 3, 1926, he married Mary Alice Rogers in Estherville and the couple has lived here since. Mr. Danielsen worked for about 19 years for the Gamble-Robinson company and for the past six or seven years for Fagre Construction company.

A childhood member of the Christian church, he held many church offices and was a member of the board of elders, a member of the Sunday school faculty and chairman of the evangelism department at the time of his death.

Surviving his death are his wife; three sons, Dale of Sioux City, David of Seattle, Wash., and Donald at home; one daughter, Miriam Ruth at home; one grandchild, five sisters, Mrs. Gene Rost and Mrs. Louise Johnson, both of Estherville; Mrs. William Harridge of Des Moines, Mrs. Arthur Chard of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Chester Moore of Wichita, Kans.; his mother, Mrs. Chris Danielsen of Estherville.

Preceding him in death are his father and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Christian church. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Pall bearers will be C.P. Mauck, Jean Sheppard, Lars Anderson, Fletcher Knotts, Harry Jones and Bruce Hoien.

Friends may call at the Sandin funeral home after 7 p.m. today until 10 a.m. tomorrow when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state up until the time of the service. The casket will not be opened after the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 9, 1953)
