Mrs. Charles Werling Dies at Age 81
Mrs. Charles Werling, 81, Estherville, died Tuesday [May 23, 1967] evening at Holy Family Hospital from a heart attack. She had been ill for about three weeks.

Florence Emily French was born April 9, 1886, at Eldora to Mr. and Mrs. George French. She married Charles Norby Jan. 1, 1914, at Eldora. Mr. Norby preceded her in death in 1922.

She later was married to Charles Werling, Oct. 28, 1937, in Estherville. Mr. and Mrs. Werling continued to make their home in Estherville. Last Saturday Mr. Werling observed his 100th birthday, at which time he made one of his daily visits to the hospital to see is wife.

Mrs. Werling was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the women’s organization of the church.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Hollis (Evalyn) Burke, Clear Lake, and Mrs. Wirt (Florence) Culpepper, Crowley, La.; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Mrs. Jay Howard, Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and one sister.

Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral home after 3 p.m. today and until noon Thursday when the casket will be taken to the church. The casket will not be opened following the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 24, 1967)
