Estherville – Alfred E. Nelson, 85, Estherville, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1986 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Estherville Lutheran Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pastor Norman Omodt will be officiating.
Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born Oct. 30, 1900 [per cemetery records, 1899; per WWI Draft records, October 29, 1899] in Norway to Hans and Helga [Olson] Nelson. He came to the United States as a young boy in 1907. He attended Estherville schools. He married Thelma Johnson on March 12, 1923 at Crown Point, Ind. he began working in the meat packing industry in 1936 for the Tobin Packing plant in Estherville. He retired from the John Morrell Packing Plant in 1965. He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in 1981. He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his son, Richard (Dick) Nelson, Muscatine; his daughter, Madelyn (Mrs. Everet) Ellis, Eleva, Wis.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, who died April 4, 1975; his parents and a brother, Olaf Nelson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 26, 1986)
