Funeral services for Duane “Sam” L. Frederick, 70, of Superior, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at Schuchert Funeral Home at 2317 32nd St. in Spirit Lake. Visitation was Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Estherville.He died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006.
Duane “Sam” L. Frederick was born Feb. 15, 1936 in Emmetsburg to Lester and Vera (Dammann) Frederick. He was united in marriage to Phyllis T. Hamilton July 30, 1962, in Emmetsburg. She passed away Sept. 16, 2002.
Sam served his country in the United States Army. He was drafted and served for two years. He worked as a carpenter for two years, for Superior Elevator and for Harold Carr for the last 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, gambling and baking in his spare time.
Sam is survived by his three son, Dave Frederick and his wife, Leslie, of Boulder, Colo., Dan Frederick and his wife, Mary of Renton, Wash., and Derek Frederick and his wife, Kristie, of Estherville; two sisters, Dolores Kilgore of Estherville, and Deanna Boelman of Redondo Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Daryld Frederick of Superior, and Darwin Frederick of Spirit Lake; five grandchildren, and a special friend, Harold Carr, and his wife, pat, of Superior. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis, and an infant daughter. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 25, 2006)
