Dr. Marion L. Gray, 77, Dies at Home
Dr. Marion L. Gray, retired dentist, died at 9 o’clock yesterday morning at his home, 715 Third avenue north, of a coronary occlusion. Dr. Gray worked with his nephew, P.G. Gray, Jr. in the P.G. Gray Produce Co. here from 1943 until his death Sunday.Marion Lewis Gray was born in Holden, Mo., Dec. 17, 1875, one of seven sons of the late Georgia Garnett and Marion Lowe Gray. He attended public school and St. Cecilia academy in Holden, Mo., and the college of dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania.
In early life he worked as a conductor with the Missouri Pacific, the Frisco and the Mexican Central railroads. He started the practice of dentistry at Aurora, Mo., and in later years continued his practice at Drexel, Mo. He retired from active practice at Drexel in 1940, returning to Holden the same year. He moved to Estherville in 1943.
On Nov. 11, 1933 he was united in marriage to Lulu May Bowman [Maiden name Weston].
He is survived by his widow, a cousin, Mamie Flynn of Wichita, Kans., a daughter-in-law, Warrens Gaines of Alamagrodo, N.M.; three nieces, Mrs. Brown G. Appleton of Warren, Ark., Miss Eleanor Gray of Batesville, Ark., and Mrs. Joe B. Hurley of Morrison, Ark., and two nephews, J. Clinton Gray of Batesville, Ark. and Paul G. Gray Jr. of Estherville. He was preceded in death by May Tevis Gray and their son, Marion Lewis Jr., and his six brothers.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Holden, the Masonic lodge at Holden and the Shrine at Springfield, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his nephew, Paul G. Gray Jr., the Rev. Thomas O. Melton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the Sandin funeral home this evening.
Active pallbearers will be Myles C. Deeny, Leo Fitzgibbons, Herman A. Jensen, Dr. J.B. Osher, Francis T. Shadle and Robret J. Welis.
