Estherville – Services for E. [Edward] Irving Ellerston, 90, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Father Wayne Pelkey of the Spirit Lake Episcopal Church will officiate. Ellerston died Monday afternoon, July 23, 1984, at his home.Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 1 p.m. Thursday.
He was born July 13, 1894 at Estherville, the son of Edward H. and Mary (Johnson) Ellerston. He attended the Estherville Schools and in 1907 moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming with his parents who homesteaded there. He completed his education in the Cheyenne Schools. In 1915 he moved back to Estherville. He served in France during World War One; played semi pro football and basketball. On May 5, 1920 he was united in marriage with Marguerite Bryan at Estherville. He farmed the home place until 1944 when he sold out and bought a gasoline business in Estherville which he sold in 1946. He went into the moving, building and selling houses until his retirement in 1970. Ellerston was an Emmet Consolidated School Board member for six years; an Emmet County Township assessor 10 years and a county supervisor for 26 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Margery) Hansel, Estherville and Mrs. Wesley (Lois) Myers, Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. Ruby Bell, San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Verna Endicott, Houston, Tex. and Mrs. Leona Racine, Paradise, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son and one daughter. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 25, 1984)
