ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Mary L. Egeland, 67, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Jerry Cosgrove officiating. Interment will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville. She died on June 21 [2000] at her residence in Estherville.

Visitation will he held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, June 23, at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville. A special parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

She was born on Feb. 5, 1933 in Gettysburg, S.D. the daughter of Edward and Marie (Matthews) Opelt.

The family moved to Estherville in 1937 where she graduated from high school in 1952.

On Nov. 18, 1954 she was united in marriage to Jon M. Egeland at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville, The couple lived most of their married life in Estherville. Jon passed away in 1997.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. She enjoyed her grandchildren, playing cards, bingo, camping and may other activities.

She is survived by four daughters, Susan Dalen and husband Dave of Estherville, Kathy Enderson and husband Kenneth of Sioux Falls, S.D., Diane Luke and husband Alvin of Graettinger and Sheila Bortvit and husband Darryl of Estherville; two sons, Tim Egeland and wife Patti of Estherville and Allen Egeland and wife Leticia also of Estherville; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one adopted daughter, Diane Frerichs and husband Darryl of Estherville; one brother, John Opelt of Solana Beach, Calif. and one sister, Doris Wycoff of Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 22, 2000)
