Mrs. John Bixby, Longtime Resident of County, Dies
Mrs. John Bixby [Etta Johnson Bixby], 60, Emmet county native and long time Estherville resident, died 4:10 p.m. Saturday [January 29, 1949] in Hopkins, Minn., at the home of her daughter Marian. She had been ill about four months.

The deceased was born Sept. 26, 1888 in Emmet county near Wallingford and was educated in Emmet county rural schools. January 20, 1909 she married John Bixby in Estherville. The couple lived in Estherville from the time of their marriage until recently when Mrs. Bixby went to stay with her daughter. Mr. Bixby, who was a conductor on the Rock Island railroad, died May 26, 1947.

Mrs. Bixby was a member of the Estherville Lutheran church, belonged to the ladies aid and was active in church work.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth of Estherville, three daughters, Marian and Betty of Hopkins, and Barbara, a student at the State University of Iowa, her mother, six sisters and three brothers. She was preceded in death by a daughter.

So that friends may pay their last respects the body will lie in state at Sandin funeral home until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Estherville Lutheran church, Rev. C.M. Hanson will officiate. Hanson formerly was pastor here, now is at Minneapolis. Burial will be at Oakhill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 31, 1949)
