Elva Baker, 85, Armstrong, died April 28, 1973, at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at United Methodist Church in Armstrong with the Rev. Travis G. Cannaday officiating. Burial was made in Dolliver Cemetery. Fuhrman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Baker was born June 8, 1887, in Dubuque, the son of Dave and Mary Baker. He received his education in Dubuque and Dolliver, where he came with his family. In 1910 he was united in marriage to Maude Curry in Algona, and they made their home in the Dolliver-Armstrong vicinity throughout their married life. Mrs. Baker died in 1960 and Mr. Baker had been a resident of Valley Vue Nursing Home, Armstrong, the past several years.
Survivors include his three daughters, Mrs. Everett (Florence) Smith of Maple Hill, Mrs. Kenneth (Edna) West of Estherville and Mrs. J.SS. (Bertlia) Mitchell of Fort Calhoun, Neb..; three grandsons, Richard, Douglas and Donald West.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Servicing as pallbearers at the funeral were Harold Laffey, Ralph Rouse,B.B. Schreck, Vern Von Hagen, Wayne West and Jean Wiegman. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 30, 1973)
Note: per WWI draft records Elva L. Baker of Dolliver, IA, was born June 6, 1886 (possibly 1887 written over) and was born in Plattville, Wis. He was married with 1 child.
