Wallingford – Services for Christena J. Vahldieck, 96, will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Gruver with Pastor William Runaas, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in High Lake Cemetery. She died Monday, Jan. 22, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center.Friends may call at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville Wednesday from 4-9 p.m.
She was born Sept. 18, 1893 at Bancroft, the daughter of Ole and Severne (Sibianson) Johannesen and attended Kossuth County country school through 8th grade. Feb. 28, 1925 she married Harry Vahldieck at her parents’ home near Bancroft. Following marriage, they moved to a farm west of Ringsted. In 1953 the couple moved to the High Lake area where they operated a resort and boat livery, cleaning fish was part of the service.
She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and the High Lake Get Together Club.
Survivors include one daughter: Mrs. Walter (Elizabeth) Blinkmann, Wallingford and one stepson, Ernest Vahldieck, Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one step granddaughter; four step great-grandchildren; 11 step great-great-grandchildren; two brothers John Johannesen, Lone Rock, Fred Johannesen, Bancroft; three sisters: Annie Presthus, Algona; Cena Looft, Estherville and Tilda Young, Excelsior, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son; one step-daughter; parents; three sisters; one brother and one great-grandson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 24, 1990)
