Estherville – Services for Obert Leroy Rockne, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Sawyer and Mrs. Lee Davidson officiating. Interment will be in High Lake Cemetery with full military rites being observed by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He died Thursday, May 5, 1983 in the Veterans Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
Rockne was born Oct. 1, 1897 in High School Township, the son of Lars B. and Regina (Hanson) Rockne and he attended country schools. He remained singe. He moved to Minnesota with his family in 1915 and lived near Mora and Cocato, where the family farmed till 1927 when they returned to Estherville. Rockne operated the North Side Dairy and WNAX Fair Price Oil Business in partnership with his brothers till 1937. He served in World War Two. After the war he worked as a carpenter in various locations until his retirement ten years.
Rockne was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston; American Legion; Sons of Norway and a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a brother Kert Rockne, Casa Grande, Ariz.; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 6, 1983)
