December 24, 1895, Mr. Martin Lee died at the family home in Estherville at 2 o’clock p.m. The funeral was held Wednesday at the Episcopal church, Rev. Bowen conducted the services and his remains were buried in the cemetery on the west side. The deceased was one of Emmet county’s early settlers, having lived in the county about twenty years and for the past five years resided in Estherville. He was a hard working honorable man and was respected by all his neighbors. He leaves a wife and two children to sorrow for his sudden taking away. At his residence on East Lincoln street, at 2 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday December 24th, Martin Robinson Lee. Deceased was born in Norway October 20th, 1838, and came to this country at the age of fifteen.In 1862 he enlisted into the 27th Regiment of Wisconsin and served three years and four months. His service for his country then ended, he went to Madison, Wisconsin and was there married in 1869. On the 6th of May in the same years, he moved to Swan Lake, Emmet county, where he resided twenty two years. In 1891 he moved to Estherville and there lived until his death.
He was taken sick very suddenly with lung fever and struggled bravely against the dreaded disease for ten days. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 1, 1896)
