Estherville – Services for Johnnie Johnson, 89, Wallingford, will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at the Wallingford Lutheran Church with Pastor Virgil Anderson officiating. Interment will be in High Lake Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Wallingford American Legion Post. Johnson died Monday, May 16, 1983 at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Estherville after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Johnson was born Nov. 29, 1893 on a farm in Palo Alto County, the son of Ole and Carrie (Strand) Johnson. He attended country school. On Jan. 5, 1921 he was united in marriage to Thelma Pranke in Des Moines. He farmed in the Wallingford area until 1952. Johnson sold DeKalb seed corn from 1939 to 1974. Mrs. Johnson died in 1959. He was a veteran of World War One and a member of the Estherville Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Wallingford Legion Posts. Johnson lived all his life in the Wallingford area until four years ago when he moved into an apartment at the Good Samaritan Center and the last year he has lived in the Center. He was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Ferman (Carolyn) Watson, Graettinger, Miss Olive Johnson, Emmetsburg, Mrs. Joan Magana, Lompoc, Calif.; two sons: Paul, Storm Lake and Ole of Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Beverly Johnson, Wallingford; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Selma Olson, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son; one grandson; two great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 18, 1983)
