Former Local Resident Dies at Aurora, Ill.
Mrs. Mala Stangeland, 83, widow of the later Henry Stangeland and former Estherville resident, died Monday [July 2, 1956] in an Aurora hospital at Aurora, Ill.

A resident of Emmet county for 60 years, Mrs. Stangeland had been making her home with a niece, Carrie Anderson at Plano, Ill., since leaving Estherville a year and a half ago.

In addition to a number of other nieces and nephews, survivors include a nephew, Elmer Peterson of Estherville.

Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at Plano, Ill., with the Rev. L.G. Hinderaker, former Estherville Lutheran pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Stangeland’s body will arrive in Estherville tomorrow evening and will lie in state at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral home Saturday morning until taken to Wallingford Riverside Lutheran cemetery where graveside services will be conducted at 11 o’clock. The Rev. Paul Tolo of Graettinger will officiate. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 5, 1956)
