Knute K. Skattebo, who was born in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, on January 14, 1859, passed away at his home in Wallingford on last Friday afternoon, September 29, 1939, at 4 o’clock at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 16 days. Death was due to a heart attack.On July 3, 1884, Mr. Skattebo was united in marriage to Marie Berge by Rev. Alfson of Manitowoc. In the fall of 1885 they moved to Iowa and located on a farm east of the Immanuel church where they remained two years. Then they purchased a farm north of Wallingford and lived there till the spring of 1915, at which time they moved to Wallingford. On August 13, 1931, Mrs. Skattebo passed away.
The married life of Mr. and Mrs. Skattebo was blessed with nine children. Clarence, Arthur and Francis of Wallingford, Mrs. John Graff of Estherville and Lloyd of Graettinger. Four have preceded him in death. Mabel, Leonard, Minnie and Gusta. In addition to these children, Mr. Skattebo is survived by nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Martin of Ashland, Wis., Ed. of Danbury, Wis., and a sister, Mrs. Herman Guetschow of Danbury, Wis., and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the C.I. Skattebo home east of Wallingford and at 2 p.m. at the Wallingford Lutheran church with Rev. Peder Nordsletten officiating.
Mrs. Sherman Gunderson and Miss LaVerna Olson sang two duets and a group of singers, Mrs. and Mrs. Lloyd Larson, Miss Olson and Mrs. Gunderson sang at the grave.
Interment was made in the Wallingford cemetery. Pall bearers were J.A. Herring, John Morrice, Nels Michelson, O.O. Anderson, E.E. Ellefson and J.O. Kasa. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 12, 1939)
