Mrs. Thomas Murphy Dies at Age of 74
Mrs. Thomas (Mary) [Mamie A.] Murphy, 74, of Estherville died yesterday at 6:20 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital. She had been ill for a week at her home with a cardiac condition, and was hospitalized for a week before her death.Mrs. Murphy was born April 12, 1885, at Academy, S.D., the daughter of Katherine and Bernard Logan. She received her education in schools at Aplington. She was married to Thomas Murphy Feb. 7, 1910, at Williams.
Following their marriage, they lived in Buffalo Center, Williams, Estherville and Armstrong. They moved back to Estherville in 1934. Mrs. Murphy was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Evelyn) Wayson of Urbana and Mrs. Charles (Katherine) Westbrook of Estherville, and Mrs. Wanda Follett Kennedy of Armstrong, whom Mrs. Murphy reared. Also surviving are two brothers, William Logan of Superior and Charles Logan of Estherville. Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband in 1951, an infant brother Leo and her parents.
Funeral services will be tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, the Rev. James H. Duhigg officiating. Rosary will be recited tonight at 8:30 at Mrs. Murphy’s home at 538 South 15th St. Friends may call there this evening. The Sternborg Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements and burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 16, 1959)
