J.J. Morrissey, 75, Dies After Brief Heart Ailment
J.J. Morrissey, 75, died last night at his home following a brief illness. Death was caused by a heart ailment. He had previously been in Holy Family hospital for eight days to receive medical care.John Joseph Morrissey, was born Aug. 10, 1869 in Brookfield township, La Salle county, Illinois. The family moved to Estherville 27 years ago from Ottawa, Ill., and Mr. Morrissey opened a tire store in a building which is now occupied by the J.C. Penney store. For the past 19 years he has operated the Handy Cash grocery and Cities Service station on Central avenue.
Surviving are his widow, two sons, Milton of Los Angeles, Cal., and Leroy of Estherville and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Waldron of Estherville. Also surviving are two brothers, W.A. Morrissey of Utica, Ill., and M.J. Morrissey of Atchison, Kans.,and five grandchildren.
Milton Morrissey left California yesterday for Estherville and expects to arrive here Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Morrissey of Utica and J.P. White of Ottawa arrived in Estherville last night and M.J. Morrissey is expected Saturday evening.
Funeral services have been planned tentatively for Monday morning at St. Patrick’s church, with burial in the Catholic cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 28, 1944)
