Local Man Dies at 83 After Attack
Henry (Nick) Koenecke, 83, died yesterday shortly after noon at Holy Family Hospital where he had been taken an hour earlier suffering from a heart attack.He was born Sept. 30, 1882, the son of Frederick and Margaret Koenecke, in Blue Island, Ill. He came to Emmet County with his parents when he was 17 years old.
He married Eugena Kriebes [Eugenia Kriebs] Sept. 25, 1899, at St. Patrick’s church in Estherville, and they farmed in Emmet county until 1943 when they moved to Estherville. Mrs. Koenecke died June 28, 1962.
Surviving is a son, Francis, of Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. .R.E. (Margaret) Phillips of Burlington, Wis.; three grandchildren, Michael and Mary Koenecke and Robert Phillips; four brothers, August of Lisbon, N.D., Robert of Emmet County, Charles of Glendale, Ariz., and Walter of Hector, Minn.; and a sister, Mrs. Nate Bartleman of Graettinger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons and his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s church with Msgr. James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery,
There will be Rosary at 8:30 Wednesday evening.
Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home any time Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Robert Stump, Ed Rost, Henry J. Neppl, George W. Calhan, Lewis Krier and Roy Hood. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 3, 1965)
