Heart Attack Fatal for Dan Kenney
Dennis (Dan) Kenney, 72, 1221 ½ 2nd Ave. N., Estherville, died yesterday afternoon of a heart attack while digging a grave at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. He was taken to the Holy Family Hospital but was dead on arrival.Mr. Kenney was born Sept. 5, 1887, in Pocahontas County [per WWI draft records, Gilmore City, Humboldt Co.] and received his education there. In 1912, he married Sophia Gindling at Palmer. The couple moved to the Estherville area in 1927, and farmed south of Dolliver for a number of years. Mr. Kenney also was employed at Estherville gravel pit and retired in 1955.
He is survived by one daughter, Mildred Kenney, Estherville and one son, Patrick, also of Estherville. Other survivors include one brother, Robert, of Bode, and two sisters, Mrs. Edward Schmidt of Fenton, and Mrs. Mary Wiegert of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and three brothers.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church in Estherville. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sternborg Funeral Home. Friends may call at Sternborg Funeral Home from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of services. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 29, 1959)
