John F. Pro Dies; Rites To Be Monday
Brick Mason Here for 44 Years
John F. Pro of Estherville, who has been in failing health for the past three months, died at his home early this morning.

Mr. Pro who was born June 19, 1878, in Ashkum, Ill., moved to Iowa when he was four years old and resided near Sanborn and Milford until his marriage Nov. 8, 1903, to Maria I. Aanonson. After his marriage he came to Estherville where he has lived since. As a brick mason for 44 years Mr. Pro took part in construction of many of the houses and business buildings of this city.

Survivors include his widow, a son, Donald Pro, of Estherville and four daughters, Mrs. Harvey Dowd, Mrs. George Siefken and Mrs. Tevis Fulton of Spirit Lake and Mrs. Ira Pleart of Adel.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran church with the Rev. C.M. Hanson officiating. Burial will be at the Wallingford cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church until 10 a.m. Monday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 24, 1947)

Mr. John F. Pro was born June 6 [19], 1878 to Mr. and Mrs. Steven Pro at Ashkum, Ill. At the age of four he moved with his parents to live at Hartley. They lived in and around that community until the time of John’s marriage to Maria I. Aanonson. This union took place Nov. 8, 1903. After their marriage they moved to Estherville where they have lived ever since. John worked at his trade as brick mason in this community for a period of 44 years and while practicing his trade assisted in the construction of many of the buildings which are now important business places in Estherville. He had a large part in the building of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

Five children were born to this union, and all of them survive their father. They are Donald Pro of Estherville, Mrs. Harvey Dowd, Mrs. George Siefken and Mrs. Tevis Fulton of Spirit Lake, and Mrs. Ira Pieart of Adel.

Besides his wife and children he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Agnes Flanery of Woodstock, Minn.; Mrs. Elisabeth White of Amusville, Ore., Mr. Charles Pro of Celoron, N.Y., Julia Casebeer of Harlem, Mont., and George Pro of Salem, Ore. One sister, Mrs. Frances Flanery preceded him in death in 1938. Eleven grandchildren also survive. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 29, 1947)

John F. Pro Dies Following a Long Illness
John F. Pro, a long time and well known resident of this city, passed away at his home early on Friday morning. Mr. Pro has been in failing health for some time past but has been on duty as a brick layer until some four months ago when his illness compelled him to stop active duties.

Mr. Pro has been a resident of this city since his marriage to Maria Aanonson in November, 1903. He was born in Ashkum, Ill. on June 19, 1878. He came with the family to Iowa when he was four years old and resided at Sanborn and Milford before coming to this city.

Mr. Pro was a quiet man, attending to his business making many friends and keeping those he made by his uprightness.

He is survived by his widow and one son Donald, with whom he has been affiliated in the erection of many homes and buildings in this city, and four daughters, Mrs. Harvey Dowd, Mrs. George Siefkin and Mr. [Mrs.] Tavis Fulton of Spirit Lake, and Mrs. Ira Pieart of Adel.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the Estherville Lutheran Church, the Rev. C.M. Hanson officiating. Interment was in the Wallingford cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, October 30, 19470
