Mrs. Oscar Norby
Mrs. Oscar Norby was born September 14, 1848, and died December 29, 1926, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 12 days.

She came to this country with her parents from Norway when she was a girl 16 years of age.

She was married in1869 to Oscar Norby. To this union seven children were born, four of which preceded her in death.

The Norbys settled on a homestead near Superior, Iowa, and lived there until the death of the husband in 1914. Then Mrs. Norby moved to Estherville and made her home with her son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Norby. In 1923 she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. O.J. Brown at Hawley, Minn.

She leaves to mourn her going, one daughter and two sons, Mrs. O.J. Brown, Hawley, Minn.; Geo. W. Norby, of Shevlin, Minn.; Wm. A. Norby, of Williston, N. Dak. There are two sisters, Mrs. O.L. Anderson of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and Mrs. J.C. Knuff, of Fergus Falls, Minn. There are also two brothers living, Mr. Hans Johnson, of Lamberton, Minn., and Mr. Anton Johnson, of Jackson, Minn. There are ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services were held at the home of the daughter in Hawley before the body was brought here and another service was held in Estherville Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Davis. The body was laid to rest in the Union State Line cemetery [Dickinson County].

It has been the pleasure of the editor of the Enterprise to have known Mrs. Norby for many years. She was a woman of ability. A fine perception of her duties to her church, her family and her neighbors who always held her in high esteem. She was a resident of this city for many years and has a host of friend among the old time residents of the city. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 5, 1927)
