Flavia Frances (Goetz) Young, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Barner) Goetz, was born November 21, 1922, in Waukegan, IL. She passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, IA, at the age of 85. As a child, she lived in Wisconsin and then moved with her family to Waterville, WA. She graduated from Waterville High School. Then Flavia attended nursing school at St. Anthony's Hospital in Wenatchee, WA, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. On September 3, 1948, Flavia was united in marriage to Robert H. Young in Wenatchee. Flavia was employed as a registered nurse her entire life. She worked as a nurse at clinics and hospitals in Wenatchee, Leon, IA, Grinnell, IA and Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. Flavia was well known by her patients and colleagues as a dedicated, knowledgeable, wonderful and caring nurse. Her specialty was coronary care and she spent many years as Head Nurse for the Holy Family Hospital Coronary Care and Intensive Care Unit. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards, board games and traveling. Most cherished by Flavia was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed trips with her family to the Wisconsin Dells and playing miniature golf. Flavia retired in 1995. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Estherville, PTA and various organizations throughout her life. Left to cherish Flavia's memory are her two daughters, Roberta "Bobbie" Young and her companion, Gary Richard of Estherville and Loretta Hubbard of Lima, OH; her grandchildren, Martin Christensen of Estherville, Jenny Hubbard of Columbus, OH and Jason Hubbard and his wife, Jallison of Minneapolis, MN; great-grandchildren, Gibson, Gabrielle and Dylan; special sister-in-law, Jean Burgess and her husband, Jim of Alaska; brothers-in-law, Bill Young and his wife, Dorothy of Washington and Albert Young of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Flavia in death were her husband; parents; brother, Burley Goetz; sister, Arpine Goetz; her grandparents; nephew, Randy Goetz; and an aunt, Ann Pilgrim. Visitation was held Friday, August 1, 2008, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville, IA. Funeral Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Estherville, IA, Saturday, August 2, 2008, with Pastor Lynn A. Potter, officiating. Interment at East Side Cemetery in Estherville, IA, followed. (MC)
