Estherville – Funeral services for Ethel [Johanna] Rodger, 89, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17 at the First Presbyterian Church of Estherville with the Rev. W. Willis Longer officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died on Saturday, September 14 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be held today, Monday, September 16 from 4-8 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born on October 23, 1906 in Hull, the daughter of Cornelius and Dora (Brower) Versteeg. Her childhood years were spent in the Leata, Minn area where she received her education. Her family later moved to Sibley. She was united in marriage to Frank Rodger on June 28, 1931. Following their marriage the couple lived in Sheldon and Sanborn. In May 1935, they moved to Estherville where she has resided since.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 61 years, where she was active in many organizations of the church, including an Elder and Deacon. She also was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Good Samaritan Center, Izaac Walton, Garden Club and was a Girl and Boy Scout leader for many years.

She is survived by one daughter, Marlene Donaldson of New Brighton, Minn.; one son, Darrell Rodger of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Gladys Philliph of Levittown, Penn.; Mary VandeSteeg of Slayton, Minn.; Gertrude Evink of Slayton; and Irene Kiripen of Paulina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 16, 1996)
