Estherville – Services for Richard Dean Pelzer, 50, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Max Goldman officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. He died Tuesday, June 9, 1987 at his Spirit Lake home.

Friends may call at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville after 3 p.m. Friday.

He was born Feb. 8, 1928 [per cemetery records, 1927] at Griswold, the son of Irvin and Dollie (Sothman) Pelzer. He graduated from Griswold high School in 1945. On July 24, 1949, he was united in marriage with Ruth Krueger at Atlantic. He was employed at Newman’s Body Shop in Griswold until 1955 when he started farming an 80-acre farm. Along with farming he was a Real Estate Broker and Insurance agent there. The couple moved to the Estherville area in 1969 where he continued farming and worked with the Jolliffe Real Estate Agency in Emmetsburg and later with the Stockdale Agency in Okoboji selling farm land.

He was a member of the Estherville United Methodist Church; charter member and past president of Town and Country Kiwanis and past president of Toastmasters.

Pelzer is survived by his wife, Ruth, rural Estherville; mother Dollie Pelzer, Omaha, Neb.; three sons: Alan and wife Connie, David and wife Patricia, rural Estherville and Brian Pelzer, Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren; two brothers Cecil, Greeley, Colo., and Max, Estherville; one sister Mrs. Robert (Juanita) Keisel, Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his father and four brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 11, 1987)
