Estherville – Services for Woodrow “Woody” Boggess, 79, of Estherville, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville, with full military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post No. 91 of Estherville. He died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998 at Holy Family Health Services.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born December 29, 1918 at West Union, the son of Rollie and Maggie (Mann) Boggess and received his education in the Indiana and Ohio Schools. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during WWII, and was taken Prisoner of war by the Germans in North Africa and spent 27 months as a P.O.W. On Sept. 28, 1945 he was united in marriage with Iva McClelland in Auburn, Ind. Following their marriage the couple moved to Estherville where he was employed by Tobin Meat Packing Plant, later John Morrell’s for 33 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church; V.F.W. Post 3388 and American Legion Post No. 91 all of Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Iva of Estherville; daughters, Mrs. David (Mary) Corwin, Melbourne; Mrs. Brian (Kay) Besaw, Estherville; Mrs. Randy (Sue) Glover, Southhaven, Miss.; Mrs. Jerry (Kathy) Thompson, Estherville; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, two daughters and a granddaughter. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 15, 1998)
