John Otis "Jack" Barrett 1926-2005

John Otis Barrett, the son of Frank Barrett and Hannah (Nelson) Barrett, was born September 30, 1926 in Dolliver, Iowa. He passed away Friday, July 29, 2005 at Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 78.

He received his education in Estherville Schools. In 1943, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy as a Medic and served during World War Two.

On February 8, 1947, Jack was united in marriage to Dorothy Grimm at Jackson, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Estherville where Jack was employed by Super Valu and Swanson Grocery Store as a meat-cutter. In 1967, the couple moved to Oelwein, Iowa and Jack worked for Super Valu and IGA Grocery store until his retirement. After his retirement he also worked for a cabinet maker. Dorothy died September 12, 1992.

Jack was a member of the V.F.W in Estherville. For hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing.

Left to cherish Jack's memory is his daughter, Jacque Peta and her husband, Lonnie of Estherville; his grandchildren, Teri Renze and her husband, Mark of Eagan, Minnesota; Liane Madsen and her husband, Jason of Rosholdt, South Dakota; Ryan Peta of Miami, Florida; and seven great-grandchildren.

He has been preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Leonard and his sister, Alice Smith.
