Estherville – Services for James Erwin Callahan, 70, will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Wiegman officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. He died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1992 at Holy Family Hospital. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.He was born Oct. 15, 1922 at Greenville, S.C. the son of Nestor and Sylvia (Brinner?) Callahan and grew up at Temple Hill, Tenn. At age 16 he worked as a lineman for a C.C.C. Camp in Wyoming putting up light poles. After moving to Iowa he drove transit bus in Des Moines where he met Lola Smith whom he married May 25, 1947. After living a year at Newton the couple moved to Estherville. He worked at Golden Sun Feeds and later Morrell Packing Plant, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two sons: Keith of Wilmington, Ohio and Wayne of Fostoria; one daughter, Mrs. Randy (Linda) Winter of Jackson, Minn.; nine grandchildren; his mother Sylvia Brinner [Callahan], Sheridan; brothers bob of Melcher and Lloyd of Springfield, Mo.; sisters: Louise Sanders, Melcher and Alice Presley, Carlisle.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 28, 1992)
