Mrs. Eliza Willey Dead
Mrs. Eliza Willey died at the home of her son, I.G. Willey, in this city early Monday morning of heart disease. The body was taken to Ainsworth, her former home, Monday night, where the funeral was held Tuesday and interment made. She is survived by seven sons and two daughters, two sons being residents of this county, I.G. Willey, of Estherville and J.H. Willey, east of town. Deceased was past seventy-one years of age and had been a resident of southern Iowa for many years. She was a most worthy lady, a faithful and loving wife and devoted mother. The past year she has made her home with her son, I.G. Willey, of this city.Eliza Jane [Geddes] Willey was born September 26th, 1846, in Ohio. She was married to W.W. Willey August 1, 1865. In the fall of 1856 they moved to Iowa where they have since lived. June 4, 1904, the husband and father left this earthly home, for his heavenly mansion. Mrs. Willey was the mother of thirteen children, nine of whom survive her. She accepted Jesus as her Saviour when she was a young girl and has lived a devoted Christian life. Her many friends and relatives will miss her from her accustomed place in the M.E. church at Cotler where she was a faithful member for years. Since the death of her husband she has been failing in health and March 30th, 1908, her spirit took its departure from the frail body and has one to the reward which awaits the faithful. She leaves to mourn her loss, seven sons and two daughters, many relatives and friends. Brief funeral services were held at the I.G. Willey home Monday afternoon and the remains taken to Ainsworth, Iowa, for burial. (Vindicator and Republican, Esthervilel, IA, April 1, 1908)
