OSCAR WICKENS RITES SUNDAY IN ESTHERVILLE
Death Friday at Home in Ida Grove
Funeral services for Oscar S. Wickens, 74, a former Emmet county resident, were held yesterday afternoon in the Church of Christ with the Rev. Fred D. Sawyer in charge. Wickens died Friday at his home in Ida Grove. Wickens, the son of James and Elizabeth A. [Corke] Wickens, was born July 13, 1867, on a farm at Tampico, Illinois. He grew up and received his education there.Married in 1908 – He was married to Susie Heaton in April of 1908 at Galva, Iowa, and the couple made its home on a farm near Bronson for several years. They later went to farm near Oxford, Kan., where he became a member of Oxford Lodge, No. 165, A.F. and A.M.
After two years residence there, they moved to Mallard and purchased a farm. They later moved to Gruver, where they lived until their retirement and came to Estherville. Mrs. Wickens died Feb. 11, 1941.
Moves to Ida Grove – In October, 1941, Wickens moved to Ida Grove. He had enjoyed fairly good health until the latter part of January when he became ill. He seemed to be recovering, however, until he was taken seriously ill again, Feb. 21. After that his health failed rapidly.
Surviving him are four older brothers, George of Los Angeles, Thomas and Sam of Rock Falls, Ill., and Owen of Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 2, 1942)
