Mrs. Melvin Bowen Died at Bethesda Hospital Last Night

Mrs. Melvin Bowen, 26, formerly Miss Inez Waters, of this city, died at midnight Tuesday [February 20, 1934] at the Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul. Mrs. Bowen is a daughter of Mrs. Belle Waters [Belle Todd Waters], of St. Paul, formerly of this city.

A daughter was born February 8th to Mr. and Mrs. Bowen and her death was due to pneumonia and other complications.

Mrs. Bowen is survived by her husband, who is connected with the Bowen and Sons, Engravers; one son, Marshall, age three years; and an infant daughter, Patricia Lynn; her mother, Mrs. Belle Waters; six sisters, Mrs. Lee Jones of this city, Mrs. Ray Sharar of San Gabriel, Calif., Mrs. Sim Bemis, Arnold; Mrs. Creno Shiley of Graettinger; Mrs. C. B. Erickson of Minneapolis; Miss Myrtle Waters of St. Paul, and two brothers, Vern of St. Paul, and Leo of this city.

Mrs. Bowen is well known in this city as she was born here and graduated from the local high school with the class of 1925.

The remains will be brought to this city Saturday morning and the funeral will be held Saturday afternoon in the Presbyterian church. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 21, 1934)

Funeral Services to Be Held in Presbyterian Church Here Saturday
Mrs. Melvin Bowen, 26, of St. Paul died Tuesday night at midnight at a hospital in St. Paul from pneumonia. Mrs. Bowen will be remembered in Estherville as Miss Inez Waters, daughter of Mrs. Belle Waters.

Mrs. Bowen suffered from an infection after the birth of a daughter born Feb. 8 and later contracted pneumonia. Mrs. Leo Waters and Mrs. Creno Shiley of Graettinger spent the week end in St. Paul with Mrs. Bowen and her family and when they returned home Monday she was getting along nicely.

Funeral services will be held in Estherville Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Presbyterian church. The Rev. Arthur Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, one son, Marshall Todd, one daughter, Patricia Lynn, two weeks old; her mother, Mrs. Belle Waters, six sisters, Mrs. Ray Sharar of San Gabriel, Calif.; Mrs. Lee Jones of Estherville, Mrs. Sim Bemis of Arnold, Mrs. C. B. Erickson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Creno Shiley of Graettinger and Miss Myrtle Waters of St. Paul and two brothers, Vern of St. Paul and Leo of Estherville.

Mrs. Bowen was reared in Estherville and received her education in the local schools. She was graduated from the local high school in1925 and then went to a business college in St. Paul. About five years ago she was married to Melvin Bowen and has been living in St. Paul ever since. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 22, 1934)
