ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Christina Elizabeth Timmons, 97, of Sioux Falls, S.D. and formerly Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 9 at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Lynn Elrod officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. She passed away, Wednesday, Jan. 4 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Christina Elizabeth (Ahrens) Timmons, was born on Aug. 23, 1914, in Jackson, Minn., to Alberta (Bell) Ahrens and Frank Ahrens.

She received her education in the Estherville school system.

Christina was united in marriage to Ivan Timmons on Nov. 14, 1930. Together they raised four children. They farmed near Huntington, Iowa, for many years then in 1954, they moved to Estherville and operated a small grocery store (Irene's Grocery). In 1960, they purchased a drive-in restaurant (Ivan's Drive Inn). Christina was famous for the pork tenderloins that were served and is remembered as a positive influence to all of the teenagers that frequented Ivan's. In 1971, Christina and Ivan sold the restaurant and Christina was employed by Holy Family Hospital as a nursing assistant who worked on the OB Floor. She loved taking care of all of the new babies that were born.

Christina was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville. For many years, she was active in the quilting group. She left her legacy in the beautiful quilts that she made for her family members and friends. She was also active in many card groups throughout her life and was a fierce competitor when playing 500!

Highlights of Christina's life include trips to Europe, Washington DC, fishing trips to northern Minnesota, the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of a B-52 bomber and at age 93 a ride on a jet ski! She loved life and was always a positive influence to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susan (Doug) Dunker of Sherburn, Minn. and Kathy (Allen) Kaltved of Hartford, S.D.; 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Christina in death were her husband, her parents, five brothers, Emmett, Lynn, Frank, Henry, and Steward, five sisters, Marie, Ada, Hulda, Theresa, and Nancy, one son, Robert and one daughter, Anita (Glover). (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 7, 2012)
