Olaf Edwin [Oedvin] Killed
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Norwegian Lutheran church for Olaf Edwin, brother of Mrs. A.E. Johnson of this city. Mr. Edwin had lived in Estherville for several years but moved to Chicago last spring where he was employed on the railroad. His death was accidental, being killed by a passenger train while at work Tuesday, November 13. He was a young man of thirty, unmarried.He leaves four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. D.R. Dahl of Bryant, South Dakota; Mrs. N. Rugtiv who lives in northern Minnesota; and Mrs. L. Skogg and Mrs. A.E. Johnson of Estherville. The brothers are Rongvald [Ragnvald] Edwin [Oedvin] of South Dakota and John who is with our boys in Texas.

Local Young Man Killed in Chicago
Olaf Edwin [Oedvin] Hit by Train and Instantly Killed – Funeral Services Sunday Afternoon
Olaf Martin Edwin, a young man who has made Estherville his home the past two years, was struck and instantly killed by a North Western passenger train in Chicago last week. He left this city last summer going to the city where he had a position and was working there at the time of the accident. The remains were brought to this city last Sunday morning and funeral services conducted Sunday afternoon from the Norwegian Lutheran church, Rev. Akre in charge.During his residence here Mr. Edwin made many friends who will be deeply grieved to hear of his untimely death. He was a bright, likeable fellow, clean in habits and square in all his dealings. He was born in Sondene Nordfjord, Norway, on October 6th, 1885, being at the time of his death 32 years of age. He came to this country in 1905 settling near Madison, S.D., where he worked until about two years ago when he came to Estherville to work for his brother-in-law, Lars Skog. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters in Norway and four sisters and two brothers in this country. All of his relatives in this country were present for the funeral services. They are Mrs. Edward Johnson and Mrs. Lars Skog of this city, Mrs. Noah Rugtiv of Orleans, Minnesota, Mrs. George Dahl, of Bryant, S. Dak., Ragnvold of Howard, S.Dak., and Jonas who belongs to the aerial squadron at San Antonio, Texas. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery. The grief stricken relatives have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, November 21, 1917)
